Hot Themes To Go
by Tsunami
I usually stay away from doing site reviews because I know
there are several thousand places online that do a good job
of this already.. so, why tell you about yet another "cool" site?
Two words.. Star Wars
Two more words.. free stuff
and two more.. Hot Themes
Those six little words paint a big picture. Most surfers will agree
that you need a good theme in order to have a interesting web site.
You know, something really groovy like a newsletter or something...
Hot Themes, is phat! "you go boy!" It's this place on the
Internet where you can download lotsa free goodies for your
computer desktop; themes, screensavers and more.
Desktop themes aren't new, they have been around since Moses
mastered Windows 95. Prior to this.. there were Windows 3.1
screensavers, such as flying toasters and the like. The concept
of a free screensaver as used for promotion rocketed through
the mid 90s. Star Wars is an example, and you will find both
older and newer wars waiting to be collected at Hot Themes.
The irony is, most modern computer monitors refresh the picture at
a frequency that doesn't require the use of software-based screensavers,
thus eliminating the old problem with burn-in.
Leave it to us wacky computer users to keep up the demand for out-moded
software! Why? Because screensavers rule."That's because they are cool
tools" It's okay.. go ahead and download every one you can get your
hands
on.. we won't tell.
Here's the Hot Themes web page address.

Time is money?
by Tarantula
You, my spideroo pals, ought to know that Tsunami is the computer genius
between the two of us. However, ole 'Chuley knows a great program when
he snags one in his web. Caught in the web (using Gozilla, of course) is
a
real jewel called Cacheman. Now, Tsunami could explain cache to you,
and
would till the cows come home, if you let him. But plain and simple,
Cacheman can make a dramatic difference in speed on your computer
by
automatically adjusting your cache settings, determined by the way you
use
your PC. It has settings for the gamer, multimedia people, power user, etc.
and the more daring arachnoid can fine tune his/her own settings even further.
And because you are you, it is FREE! It is available here:
http://ultimatum.home.pages.de
. Don't spend all your cache in one place!
Groan. Sometimes, I just tickle myself.
WebFerret.. Friendly fuzz that doesn't bite!
by Tsunami
I often find myself cussin' at the list of links returned to me
by search engines.. especially when I'm trying to find something
unusual on a narrow topic. I'm confident that some of you have
experienced this frustration as well - and so I'm glad that I can
tell you about an amazing little furry critter that has made the job
of searching for things much easier for this wrangled web wonderbot.
It is called WebFerret. As the name implies, it is a quick, efficient,
and resourceful creature designed to find exactly what you are
searching for.
WebFerret lives on your desktop and waits for your input. Click
on the icon, type in the words you wish to search for, and click
find. WebFerret then launches into action and immediately begins
rooting through numerous search engine databases. A list of web
sites appears at the bottom of its well-designed interface and
grows with each new link! Too cool. WebFerret is simply amazing!
...and, get this, it's FREE.
Options, options, and more options. WebFerret is highly
configurable. Select to search any one of nine different search
engines, save your results, and even set the number of results
you want WebFerret to return in total or per engine! Then, you
can cut, copy, and paste the results as a text file, or paste them
directly to the body of an email message.
Installation was exceptionally easy. Ignore the stuff about
using a Proxy unless you are using one (you know who you are).
Please take an extra few seconds to fill out and send the registration.
WebFerret is just one critter in a family of fine free products
available at the official Ferret home page.

Tsunami just loves this stuff!
I can't believe he just did that!

Just when you thought it was safe to go back on the net.....
I have displayed before me a silly little applet called Happy Fred.
Fred is walking around my monitor, gulping beer, picking his nose,
stumbling, sleeping, belching and making a general nuisance of
himself. He's a lot like my brother-in-law. I can get rid of him or
shut him up by clicking on him. When I get lonely and start to miss
the little guy, I just invite him back. It's nice to have a friend like
Fred. You can pick him up at
http://www.prog-net.com/fred.
Hey! Fred! Stop that!
I Feel the Need for Speed...
by Tsunami
Speed, it's a word we hear in promises from those who make
computer hardware and software. With few exceptions, speed
is the most abused defining characteristic of a new device
or software program.. We are exposed to the term 'speed' so
often we have become calloused to its meaning.
Once in a blue moon, a program so simple it actually works
comes around and floors us all. A tiny lil' software title
floating around in cyberspace like the feather in Forrest
Gump, RamBooster written by J.Pajula is just plain wonderful.
A quote from the program's author found in the help file;
"RamBooster is a program to free up Ram by forcing Windows
to remove all the data that is not currently needed in the memory."
Does it actually work? Emphatically, yes. I've run RamBooster
successfully on a Pentium 233MMX test machine with no
reported problems for a period of 30 days using various test
settings for maximum effect and can honestly say the program
has improved overall performance.
Visit the authors web site
http://sci.fi/~borg/rambooster/index.htm
to download RamBooster.
